Artist statement
Concerning the Zapopan body of works
There is a time in everyone’s life where they come to the vexing crossroad of mediocrity and excellence. For me, Jan 1, 2010 was where I faced that line in the sand. In order for anyone to transcend personal crisis, emotional struggles and tribulations, they need to find strength within themselves that is bigger than their circumstances.
In 2010 I was confronted with the necessity to start over and began to paint on the blank canvas that was my life. Like many artists I have a very short attention span. I wanted to morph into an artist of a much higher consciousness, substance and skill level. This ambition brought me to a design of a human arrow. In order to make it to the next level, I needed to focus, hence I began work on the breakthrough sculpture that I appropriately named “FOCUS”.
The piece was self-therapeutic in nature and the fresh muse sent me on a journey to Art21 Studio Foundry in Zapopan, Jalisco, a suburb of Guadalajara. There I mentored under art aficionado and owner of Art21, Francisco Quiroz. After only three days with Quiroz, without knowing it he spoke a prophecy over me; “Dale, in the next 7 weeks your view of the world will change and it will alter your life forever.” The truth of his forecast was empirical.
An explosion of creative juices exploded from my hands. I was creating a body of work that touched on Latin culture, Indigenous Mexican culture, history and any other
Off-the-wall Idea that came to my mind. Eclectic in nature,“ZAPOPAN JALISCO” is a breakthrough body of work that captures the rhapsody of the human experience.
